Alienware 17 R5 Gaming Laptop Review

With a 17-inch display and a chassis weighing in at nearly 10 pounds, the Alienware 17 R5 is truly massive. It’s thick, heavy, and incredibly sturdy. In most cases, a laptop of this size would be completely impractical for everyday use — if it weren’t packed to the gills with the most powerful hardware on the market.

Alienware threw everything it could at this laptop, cramming a 6-core Intel Core i9 processor in there, along with 32GB of RAM, and a GTX 1080 graphics card. It’s certainly outfitted like a gaming desktop so let’s find out if it performs like one.

  1. More a B for B review, than C for C.
What about daily noise impact, for example ? First upgrade possibility and utility ?

  2. I bought this for movie watching, music listening and web browsing. I keep it in my room and I never move it around or take it out. I love it a lot and till today it still serve me well. I use it for general purpose. Well I don't like to look elsewhere for other laptops besides Alienware. I don't game. But that doesn't mean that you got to be a gamer then you are allowed to buy a gaming laptop!!!! I bought it for its awesome rugged design. Well it's my money and I buy what I like…..

  3. I own one. It's great. I love Alienware laptops because it's a powerful tool. I don't game. I only use it for watching videos and listening to online music.

  4. I was going to buy an Area-51m with a 2080, but that was over $4K. I bought a refurbished 17R5 with a 1080 and the same i9 for about $2300 and I can get an external adapter for a 2080 which will let me have a top notch desktop machine and a kickass laptop for travel. I also like the built-in coffee warmers.

  5. Just ordered the newest model r5. I7 with 6 core. 2400mhz ddr4 16gb ram. 1tb hd and 256 gb ssd. 1070 gsync video card. plus more. Got a company discount big time 900 dollars off total around 1700. Can't wait to get this beast as it's being built right now. Also best screen available I think 120 mhz with eye sensor. Kind of maxed out best I could within my budget. Give me your thoughts anyone. Going to get 2 25 inch gsync alienware 240 mhz monitors added to this set up for other things I will do besides gaming also. Should be a awesome set up when I'm done.

  6. Less than 1 yr old already outdated and price down more than half. On the plus side great time to buy one. I'am selling my R4 to buy an R5 as price is about the same maybe 200-300$ more.

  7. Ok, so for most parts of this laptop, it Is really awesome, but after a month of using this, the keyboard will be soaking up the oils on your hands and will feel like shit and be sticky. Even bought a microfiber cloth to see if that would be able to get some of it off, and no luck. Until they release a replacement keyboard with hard keys, this is not worth it because it doesn't matter if it performs well, if it makes your fingers feel gross when you use it, then you won't enjoy using this. Also know this is not me because this is the first time I have ever had this problem.

  8. i bought this, (I7 8750, 16 gb, 1070 8 gb, 17" screen), it was an offer for 1900 Canadian = 1430 usd instead of 2030 USD, am i going to regret it ?? i still have 14 days to return it. what do u think?? plz help

  9. The use case is most likely a person who edits in Adobe Premiere Pro and also does heavy work in Adobe After Effects (which really screams when you throw more cores at it); oh, and still likes to sit down after hours for a few top end games for unwinding.

  10. Got this laptop as an architecture student who needs a heavy duty machine that can handle hours of work and huge complex 3D renders. Beside looking like a shiny toy I've been extremely satisfied with everything, no prob with its size or transportation cause I got it's vindicator 17.3 inch backpack right away. The battery "issue" is petty for me I wouldn't comprehend why would anyone use this laptop in a place with no electric plug ?
